Muse My creative muse comes in the form of my two retired racing greyhounds, Lucy and Clifford! They constantly keep me amused with their antics, mischeviousness, naughtiness, gentleness, and craziness!
Lucy (racing name: PW's Dixiesquick)
Lucy, my black tuxedo girl, was born on September 13, 1996. She raced at Plainfield Greyhound Park in Connecticut and retired when she was almost 5. Lucy is my first greyhound and we've had quite the long haul! I call her my "multiple personality hound"- on one hand she is quiet, sweet, and gentle. But she really doesn't like many other dogs and will turn on them in an instant, unprovoked. She tolerates Clifford and a few other male greyhounds, but that's about the length of it. I found this very hard to understand at first because everything I read about greyhounds said they were great with other dogs, very outgoing and sociable. Lucy seemed to be very distant, and have a stony personality. I spent many years trying to socialize her, rehab her, and make her "less snarky" with others. I finally just gave up and now I just accept my wonderful girl for who she is... a great greyhound who just prefers humans to other animals. Over the years her personality has warmed up and she loves to press her head into your lap and "hang out" with me in the the art studio while I work. In her younger days she was quite the zoomer and LOVED to run. She now enjoys quiet walks, car rides, and most especially sunbathing in the backyard. Lucy is the light of my life! Clifford (racing name: Halftime Kid)
Clifford was born on June 2, 1998. He raced at Seabrook (New Hampshire), Wonderland (Massachusetts) and then Plainfield, where he retired at 3 1/2. Clifford is my energizer bunny! He loves to go, go, go, go. Long hikes, speed-walks through the neighborhood, zooming around the yard... that's my boy. He also LOVES to talk- barking, yowling, mewing, whining, gurgling... you name it, he says it. This behavior started at the racing kennel where he was supposedly the favorite and encouraged to be a personality. I couldn't help but encourage it more when he came to live with me and Lucy! He is just such a great boy. Cliff visits dementia patients at our local nursing home. He loves playing with stuffed animals, racing around the yard, and going for long hikes/walks. A nice, long nap with Mom is also something he never passes up! I call him "My Fabulous Fawn" - he brightens my every day.
